Dear Sirs:I am a resident of Hernando County and a retired public health worker. I am strongly opposed to CEMEX being issued a permit to continue coal burning. This is an outdated practice that dumps harmful particulates into the air we breathe.
Asthma rates for the children in this county are higher than elsewhere in the state. This is a county that has struggled historically to attract a professional workforce. Continued poor air quality will not be an attraction.
Additionally, CEMEX has failed to disclose blasting violations for lime rock mining, failed to report violations of air quality emissions at the plant and attempted to extend mining activities in an area wholly unsuitable for, and incompatible with, such activities.
Please consider holding a public hearing on this matter before any further action is taken.
