We’re in the final stages of our fight against CEMEX to stop their plan to mine for the next 20 years across from the hospital and on the main business corridor into Brooksville, our county seat. CEMEX and the property owners have pulled out all the stops to secure their influence over commissioners and others. The final vote is scheduled for this coming Tuesday, April 28th at 9am at the Brooksville Government Center. The meeting starts at 9am. After other business, CEMEX and our attorney and experts will present around 10am, then citizens can comment. So come early and plan to speak out.
Thanks to many of you who have been involved, but there’s still a lot that can happen in the next few days . We need your help now more than ever. A wave of phone calls and emails and a strong showing on Tuesday April 28th is critical right now. We’re up against deep-pocketed influential local property-owners and a well-connected foreign corporation and we need your help now. Please contact the commissioners today. We must keep up the pressure.

Most of all, please mark your calendar now to attend and speak out at the County Commission hearing Tues. April 28 at 9 a.m. at the Brooksville Courthouse. You will have 3 minutes. Be prepared. The meeting will go on for a while so if you can’t be there at 9 a.m., come as soon as you can to join the line of speakers. There will be some unrelated agenda items at the beginning of the meeting, then CEMEX and our attorney will make presentations, then the speakers will follow before the vote. Bring friends; help us pack the room even if you don’t speak! Some people question whether our opposition will be taken seriously. We’re working to convince them they are wrong. Intense pressure from everyone in Hernando will send a clear message that we expect our elected officials to represent us, or there will be consequences in the next election. The thousands of letters, phone calls, and petitions many of you have helped deliver are having an impact. Let’s finish strong. To contact us, email firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you!
